How we can Rebuild Nature

Rebuilding Nature is an alliance of cross sector organisations who want to invest in nature now because it is critical national infrastructure. To invest with confidence the alliance wants to:

Create a Strategic Nature Network (SNN) - recognised as UKs critical natural infrastructure
Identify Nature Investment Zones as the key building blocks of the SNN
Restart natural processes across the SNN to make it climate resilient.

The alliance members believe this all adds up to a no-regrets mechanism for delivering existing national and international climate and nature targets simultaneously.

Why Rebuild Nature

We have breached the safe limits of the living system that supports us as a species. We now have to restore ecosystems globally to preserve a safe operating space for humanity and maintain a thriving economy.

At the same time 30% of the world’s carbon emissions can be dealt with through natural climate solutions - including restoration of native habitat.

The UK Government has committed to “ensure that by 2030 at least 30 per cent of areas of degraded terrestrial, inland water, and marine and coastal ecosystems are under effective restoration, in order to enhance biodiversity and ecosystem functions and services, ecological integrity and connectivity”.

I am excited to join a group of strong willed and passionate cross-sector professionals working towards investing in nature and treating it as a critical asset. Restoring and reviving ecosystems is one of the most urgent challenges that needs addressing to help communities adapt to the climate crisis and meet our NetZero and biodiversity targets. I look forward to contributing to the ‘Rebuilding Nature’ agenda and in turn to building a healthy, nature and people positive world
