Creating a Strategic Nature Network

Rebuilding Nature has a vision to create a Strategic Nature Network by restoring dynamic ecosystems that protect society, delivering 30|30|30

Together we can rebuild nature.  With all of us working towards the shared vision of a Strategic Nature Network we can make nature abundant, resilient and accessible, for the prosperity of all

Rebuilding Nature envisions the creation of a Strategic Nature Network that restores and enhances dynamic ecosystems, fostering a more resilient and sustainable environment for future generations. By focusing on the restoration of natural habitats and connecting fragmented landscapes, we aim to protect biodiversity, enhance ecosystem services, and mitigate the impacts of climate change.

Defragmentation of landscapes is essential not just for the free movement of species to re-animate natural processes and the integrity of ecosystems but also for full resilience against changing climate.

Our mission is to create a physical nature network that not only allows the safeguarding and movement of wildlife and plant species but also supports the well-being of society by ensuring cleaner air, water, and fertile soil, while promoting climate resilience and contributing to the long-term health of our planet.

Through collaborative efforts and innovative solutions, we are committed to rebuilding nature in a way that benefits both the environment and the communities that depend on it.

Climate change requires animals and plants to move across landscapes, but physical barriers like roads and lack of habitat often obstruct their movement. The Strategic Nature Network (SNN) aims to connect restored landscapes across 30% of the UK, enabling wildlife to move freely from one end of the country to the other. Local Nature Recovery Networks can integrate with the SNN, while low-input agriculture can support it.

The SNN serves as essential infrastructure for climate and ecological resilience, helping achieve the 30/30/30 goal while aligning with priorities like food and timber security. This can be accelerated through investment-ready initiatives like Natural Investment Zones (NIZs), which attract private funding, demonstrate the financial viability of large-scale restoration, and promote nature-positive policy changes.
